PROMPT GUIDE

Shoes and Socks Prompts (Shoe Types and Sock Lengths)

For shoes and socks, the basic approach is to get the feet into the frame with full body, then write one shoe type and one sock length. If the composition stays on the upper body, no amount of shoe tags will get them drawn. This article lists shoe types and sock lengths as tags you can use as-is.

Sock length tags (shortest first)

On Danbooru, socks are split into separate tags by length. Choose just one length tag, and write the color right before it (white socks, black thighhighs, etc.).

Rinka's tips

  • When shoes aren't drawn, first add full body or standing to get the feet into the frame
  • Matching the colors of shoes and socks makes the feet look put together (black loafers, white socks, etc.)
  • Putting in two sock-length tags tends to give different lengths on each leg. Use only one length

Copy-paste templates

Just swap out the parts in [brackets]. The first is a school uniform, the second is winter casual wear.

1girl, solo, [hairstyle], serafuku, pleated skirt, white socks, kneehighs, loafers, standing, school, outdoors, full body, masterpiece, best quality
1girl, solo, [hairstyle], coat, sweater, long skirt, black pantyhose, ankle boots, scarf, walking, street, winter, full body, masterpiece, best quality

What if it doesn't turn out right?

  • Feet go out of frame -> in addition to full body, put feet out of frame in the negative prompt
  • Shoe shapes fall apart -> use only one shoe type and try a standing pose first
  • She ends up barefoot -> move the shoe tag toward the front, or strengthen it a little like (loafers:1.2)

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the prompts for sock length?

ankle socks for up to the ankle, kneehighs for below the knee, thighhighs for above the knee, and pantyhose for tights. Choose just one length tag.

Shoes aren't drawn at all.

Check that your composition isn't an upper-body shot. Adding full body or standing to get the feet into the frame makes shoe tags start working.

How do I write over-the-knee socks in English?

On Danbooru, socks that go above the knee are tagged thighhighs. Knee socks that stop below the knee are kneehighs, so don't mix them up.
