PROMPT GUIDE

Low Angle and High Angle Prompts (from below, from above, dutch angle)

Just changing the camera angle changes the mood of the same girl a great deal. A low angle looks strong, and a high angle looks small and cute. This guide covers the list of tags that set the angle, the impression of each angle, tags that add punch, and how to avoid the failure where a low angle makes clothes look different than intended.

The short answer

Specify a low angle (looking up from below) with from below, and a high angle (looking down from above) with from above. If the angle is too strong, tone it down, and to add punch, add foreshortening or wide angle. A low angle changes how the hem of clothes shows, so long outfits and trousers make it safer.

What are the prompts for a low angle and a high angle? (from below and from above)

A low angle is from below and a high angle is from above. Use both together with a framing size tag.

Illustration usage rules

How does the impression change between a low angle and a high angle?

A low angle makes the character look large and dignified, while a high angle makes her feel small and protective. Choose the angle to match the feeling you want to convey.

Even with the same composition, the angle alone changes the impression a great deal. A low angle is drawn from the viewpoint of someone looking up, so the character looks large, reliable and sometimes slightly imposing. A high angle is the opposite: the character looks small, cute and approachable. Using a slight high angle for a character introduction picture and a low angle for a cool posing picture makes the intent of the picture clear.

What if clothes look different than intended in a low angle?

from below is an angle looking up from underneath, so with a short skirt the picture tends to show what is under the hem, producing a view you did not intend. Avoid it by choosing the outfit.

Steps for using a low angle with confidence

  1. For low angle pictures, choose outfits with a long hem, such as a long skirt, trousers, a long coat or a dress
  2. If you want to use a school uniform, do not make the angle too strong, and add punch with wide angle or a sky background
  3. If a picture comes out with the hem drawing attention, remove from below and change to a slightly low cowboy shot
  4. Put general tags for avoiding unintended views in the negative prompt (see the negative prompt guide)
  5. Check each image by eye before publishing it as an all-ages picture

What if the angle tags do not take effect well?

FailureCauseFix
The angle does not changeA framing tag (such as upper body) is strong and dilutes the angleUse cowboy shot, add the angle and strengthen it slightly, as in (from below:1.2)
It is a low angle but the face is smallThe whole body is included, as with full bodyUse upper body or cowboy shot to make the face larger
The picture is too distortedfisheye or wide angle is too strongUse only wide angle and remove fisheye
A high angle but the background is skyThe background tags lean toward skyAdd ground-side backgrounds such as street or floor
The tilt is too severedutch angle is taking strong effectRemove dutch angle or write it weaker

Rinka's tips

  • Use only one angle tag. Putting from below and from above together gives neither
  • Put sky in the background of a low angle and floor or ground in a high angle, and the angle is explained inside the picture
  • To add punch, adding wide angle or foreshortening is safer than strengthening the angle

What are copy-paste templates for low angle and high angle prompts?

Just swap what is in the square brackets. The first is a low angle against the sky, the second is a high angle looking up, and the third is a tilted composition.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I write for a low angle prompt?

from below. It gives a composition where the character looks large and strong. To add punch, add wide angle or foreshortening.

Are a high angle and a bird's-eye view the same?

They mean almost the same thing. In AI illustration prompts you use from above. It is an angle looking down, and the character looks small and cute.

What if I am concerned about the hem of clothes in a low angle?

Use an outfit with a long hem, such as a long skirt, trousers or a long coat, and do not make from below too strong. Changing to a slightly lower cowboy shot is also effective.

When should I use dutch angle?

Use it when you want to tilt the picture to add tension or movement. It can take effect strongly, so try it on just one picture first and remove it if it is too much.

What if the angle tags do not take effect?

A strong framing tag can dilute the angle. Use cowboy shot and strengthen from below or from above slightly, as in (from below:1.2), and it tends to take effect.
