PROMPT GUIDE

Facial Expression Prompt List (Smile, Blush, Crying)

It's no exaggeration to say a character's appeal comes down to their expression. Build expressions in two layers, "emotion tag + eye/mouth part tags," and the expression you're aiming for becomes much easier to get.

Joy and smiles (smile, light smile)

light smile is a tag for a faint smile where the corners of the mouth lift only slightly. It's more subdued than smile, and the go-to choice for an elegant, calm expression. The mouth moves less than with gentle smile, so you can add a smile even to cool characters or more mature artwork without breaking the mood.

Layer one eye tag and one mouth tag on top of an emotion tag, and you'll get closer to the expression you want. Eye-shape tags also change the character's overall impression, so choose them together with the expression.

Rinka's tips

  • When an expression is too weak, raise the weight of just the expression tag, like (smile:1.2)
  • The 3-piece set "emotion tag + blush + gaze tag" makes expressions look more polished
  • For close-ups of expressions, use portrait or close-up to give the face more space
1girl, solo, (light smile:1.1), blush, averting eyes, portrait, soft lighting

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

My expression tags aren't working. What should I do?

Expressions are hard to reflect when the face is small in the composition. Show the face larger with upper body or portrait, and try giving the expression tag a weight of around (tag:1.2).

Can I get complex expressions (like crying while laughing)?

Yes, by combining tags like tears, smile. However, conflicting expressions succeed less often, so the practical approach is to generate more images and pick the best.

Are eye color and eye shape expression tags?

Eye color (blue eyes, etc.) and shape are classed as appearance tags, but eye-shape tags like jitome (half-lidded glare) and tareme (droopy eyes) greatly change the impression of an expression, so it helps to learn them together.
