Tag Combination Dictionary (What to Add to Each Tag)
Tags work many times better paired with a compatible partner than on their own. This dictionary is written in a "for this tag, add this" format and collects 10 go-to combos Rinka uses often. You can copy and paste them as-is.

Light and water combinations
1. Backlighting x wet hair: the formula for a translucent look
backlighting, wet hair, water drops, lens flare, sunlightBacklight reflects off wet hair and water droplets, giving a translucent look where each strand of hair glows. Works great with summer after-rain or waterside scenes.
2. Night city x neon x rain: wet pavement takes center stage
night, neon lights, rain, wet street, reflection, city lightsRain-soaked pavement reflects the neon, doubling the visual detail. Add transparent umbrella (a clear plastic umbrella) for an even more emotional mood.
3. After rain x rainbow: a reward in the sky
after rain, rainbow, puddle, reflection, blue sky, sparkleThe clear air after rain combined with a rainbow. Add the reflection in a puddle and even the ground becomes part of the picture.
Time-of-day and location combinations
4. Classroom x evening: the golden duo of youth
classroom, afternoon, orange sky, sunset, window light, deskAn after-school classroom lit by the setting sun is a scene everyone remembers. orange sky and window light are the two keys to the atmosphere.
5. Cafe x window light: cozy warmth
cafe, window light, sunlight, coffee cup, indoors, cozySoft light from the window plus a coffee cup creates a sense of comfort. Adding cozy pulls the mood together.
6. Library x light particles: visualizing quiet
library, bookshelf, window light, light particles, dust, quietLight falling between the bookshelves, with dust floating in it (dust, light particles). A single image conveys the slow flow of quiet time.
Seasonal event combinations
7. Yukata x summer festival x fireworks: the summer trinity
yukata, summer festival, fireworks, night, lantern light, looking upThe classic summer set that only feels complete with all three. Add looking up to connect the character's gaze with the fireworks.
8. Snow x breath: how to draw winter air
snow, snowing, breath, winter coat, scarf, night, city lightsVisible white breath (breath) is the strongest tag for conveying cold in one shot. Pair it with falling snow (snowing) and you can almost see how chilly the air is.
9. Cherry blossoms x wind: draw spring with motion
cherry blossoms, falling petals, wind, floating hair, springCherry blossoms are most beautiful at the moment they're dancing through the air. falling petals, wind and floating hair together bring motion to the whole image.
10. Starry sky x meadow: a masterpiece recipe for wide shots
starry sky, meadow, night, wide shot, looking up, silhouetteA composition that places a small figure under a sky full of stars. The bolder you pull back with wide shot, the more the vastness of the sky stands out.
Rinka's tips
- Watch out for bad pairings: contradicting tags like sunny and rain, or day and night, fight each other and muddy the image
- indoors together with sky tags (blue sky, etc.) also causes confusion. If you want to show the sky through a window, add window
- Stacking too many lighting tags (lights with different color temperatures, like golden hour + neon lights) tends to throw the colors off
- Judge a combination by whether the location, time of day, weather and props could coexist in the same world
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
My combination has so many tags that not all of them work.
Write the 2-3 core tags of the combo first and put the rest further back. If they still don't work, add weight to the core tags like (tag:1.2) so they get prioritized.
Any tips for finding new combinations myself?
The basic method is to pick one location, then add a matching time of day, weather and prop one at a time. Breaking down a scene from a photo or movie into elements and turning them into tags is also good practice.
Even with combinations, my images feel too literal and boring.
Once the motifs are in place, try adding one lighting tag (backlighting, etc.) and one composition tag (from below, etc.). Even the same combination looks completely different when the way it's shown changes.
